(IDEX Online News) –A 3.54-carat fancy blue SI1 diamond
set in a platinum ring by Tiffany was the lead
ing
item at Sotheby’s Magnificent Jewels sale, selling
for $2,434,500. The result is nearly five times the top
estimate the auction house provided for the lot, $0.5
million.
According to Sotheby’s, the result is a record price for
a fancy blue diamond.
The diamond with the highest estimate at Sotheby’s
Magnificent Jewels auction in New York was a 23.02
carats fancy vivid yellow cushion-shaped step-cut dia
mond.
The diamond had a $1.5-$2 million estimate and sold for $1,874,500.
Another leading item was a fancy pink cut-cornered rectangular modified brilliant
cut
diamond weighing 6.03 carats set in a platinum ring, framed by small round
near colorless diamonds. It sold for $1.08 million, at the top end of Sotheby’s $0.9-
1.1 million estimate.
